Amazon New Zealand –Guide for Shopping At Amazon from New Zealand

Online shopping is becoming a major means of shopping for items in this jet-age. With positive customer satisfaction result, Amazon has earned the reputation of being the world’s largest online store of all the available stores. But New Zealand does not have a local store dedicated for New Zealand consumers (presently).

Because of this limitation, Amazon has a program to tackle this issue. Below is how to order for items from Amazon.com

–         The Amazon Global Program

  • Buy Through the Amazon Global Program
  • The Delivery Times And Rates
  • The Import fee deposit

–         Buying Items Restricted From International Delivery

The Amazon Global Program

To be able to combine items that can be delivered internationally Amazon runs a program called “Amazon Global”. With this program, Amazon.com is fit to take orders from international countries (about 55 countries) outside the U.S. which include New Zealand.

How to Buy Through the Amazon Global Program

This link will take you to the separate page where the search box filter is automatically set at “International Shipping.” As you search for items you will observe several filters on the left column of the webpage. After you’ve found what you want to order you’ll have to confirm if the product is available to be shipped internationally, this you can confirm by checking the “product details.”

The Delivery Times And Rates

By adding the “Per shipment” cost and the “Per Item” cost is your cost calculated. In the case of item listed as terms of price per pound, check the weight on the item’s detail page to get the cost of  “Per item” cost. Below are the current shipping speed and rates charged by Amazon for deliveries to New Zealand:

Standard Shipping: This is the basic shipping method and the cheapest among three shipping options. You can expect your items to be shipped to New Zealand within 9-12 days. Though, standard shipping is only accessible to limited categories of products.

The Import fee deposit

“Import Fee Deposit” is an international shipping fee charged based on the customs law of New Zealand. You must pay this fee before your order can be successfully processed. If the actual Import Fees are less than the Import Fees Deposit collected by Amazon, they will automatically issue a refund of the excess and if the fees are more than the estimated amount, Amazon will charge the deficiency.

Buying Items Restricted From International Delivery

We understand that some products are not available to be shipped internationally. That’s why we’ve come up with this section that talks about importing items not available to be ship internationally through the Amazon Global using the service of Freight Forwarders.

 What Freight Forwarding does

Freight forwarders are service companies that provide virtual USA shipping address to people shopping online and are not based in USA. They provide the address that can be used when ordering at an online store, and after the order is shipped to this address, the company will then forward the item to your actual address.

We are sure there are more than enough of freight forwarders, but the one I’ve personally used in the past is Shipito.com. They’ve proved to me to be the most reliable among them.

How does Shipito works

If you’ll like to use the service of Shipito, which I recommend. First you’ll create an account with them on shipito.com, after your account is confirmed and good to go, you’ll be provided a unique USA street address (Shipito monitors this address). The address provided will you use anytime you want to import item using Shipito. And once your order as been processed you will be notified by Shipito to commence the delivery of your item to your own real address. Your items may be delivered to New Zealand within 3 days, that depends on the shipping method you choose using the freight forwarders.

Warranty Issues

At the same time as you’re placing your order, make sure that your item has an International Warranty that is valid in your region. Some warranties may be honored by a few manufacturers while some may not be considered valid. Also, make sure to check any rules and regulations that apply to your customs duties.

While Amazon shopping services may not be available in the New Zealand region, Amazon Global and shipito is a very good alternate route to go the international way. I believe this guide has been somewhat helpful in creating for you, your own personal Amazon New Zealand. And please don’t hesitate to share your own helpful information in the comment. Sharing is an act of love; please share with friends who need this guide.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
